illustrationfriday word of week: swell with pride

I’ve watched the movie “Secretariat”.

The first lines in the movie “Secretariat” used a phrase from (Job 39:19-25).

“Do you give the horse his strength . . .

. . . or clothe his neck with a flowing mane? / Do you make him leap like a locust, / striking terror with his proud snorting? / He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength, and charges into the fray. / He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; / he does not shy away from the sword. / The quiver rattles against his side, / along with the flashing spear and lance. / In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground; / he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.[“]

Touching lives with Art

Touching lives with Art

Art can touch lives and enrich our lives in so many ways.
On my creative journey I’ve witness it.

Back in the 6th grade, I used to do some drawing during free time if I had finished my work.  At one point the teacher noticed my drawings and thought they were very nice.  The kids in the class also noticed.  I was drawing funny creatures then.  My classmates liked the idea and started doing their own drawings.  They would ask me for advice about drawing and I would help them.  The whole class got into it. I was a very shy child and yet with art I was able to open up and share with others.

I have a cousin who is physically and mentally challenged. I met her when her and her family came to visit. I wanted to play with her. When I showed her my toys she would just withdraw and have a blank look on her face.  I wasn’t sure what to do. One morning I saw her in the corner of the kitchen scribbling on a pad of paper.  I sat down beside her.  She stopped for a moment.  I picked up the pen.  She didn’t look at me.   I decided to try something. I drew a smiley face on the pad of paper.  She suddenly looked up at me with the brightest sparkling smile. I handed the pen back to her and said, “You try”.  She got a little frustrated, so I showed her how and help her draw one by herself.  It was the first of many visits spent drawing together.

I recently met up with a classmate from years ago.  It was good to connect with her from so long ago.  She asked me if I remembered showing her how to make a Mickey Mouse face.  I couldn’t recall that specific moment for time had passed.  Yet she never forgot.  She can’t really draw but can make a Mickey Mouse face. She even showed her children how to make a Mickey Mouse face.
I wouldn’t of thought of that making a difference yet it did.

Both our girls enjoy drawing and painting too.
I encourage creativity.

Art has been a part of my life from the first time I picked up a pencil.  It’s also shown me over and over that it’s a key to connecting with others too.

What talents we have are to be used in our lives.  It connects us together.
It’s part of the colorful fabric of life. Take action on your talents with Love.

Drawing on Passion

“Drawing on Passion”

My mom recalls I started drawing when  “I first picked up a pencil”.  I have  always enjoyed drawing.  Though there were some times I’d go for a little while without doing so, I have always come back to it over and over.   I would seem almost lost if I didn’t take time to draw, like something was missing. I’m also very thankful for my parents and teachers that encouraged me to “keep it up”.

Thus, I pursued a career in art.  I felt following my talents and strengths would lead me to where I was meant to go in the world. I can say there have been ups and downs, yet I wouldn’t change a thing.  I love creating and so that’s what I do.

I’ve always felt that no matter where I’m at in life,  I’ll be able to create.

We attended a Billy Joel/Elton John concert recently.  The Piano men of Rock.  Billy Joel and Elton John may be reaching their senior years, yet they continue to play and create some awesome music.  They’ll be rocking to the end of time.

On the same note, you can count on me creating on and on and sharing my art and journey.

Here’s one of my newest images I recently did in scratch board.

African Elephant.

Some one commented on this when I posted it at wetcanvas.com.  They said it reminded them of the “Baby  Elephant Walk”.  Ha, I remember that song and can play it on the piano…well sort of.  I’m a bit rusty on the piano, though I enjoy playing some times.

Can you feel the rhythm?

“Jumper Pony” is a charcoal pencil drawing I did from a reference photo I took at a horse jumping show.

A young rider and pony jumping a fence.  It was exciting to watch them do their round on the course.

I had this image printed on T-shirts and sweatshirts.

“Wisps and Strokes”

Welcoming summer.

“Wisps and Strokes”

Summer has arrived in the Northeast.  As usual it’s a mix of weather.  Some days are rather cool and rainy.  Other days are hot and sunny.  And sometimes the sky darkens with storm clouds of rain, lightening and thunder.  As the sun comes back out and the storm moves off, I sometimes enjoy gazing at the huge clouds.  They reach up so high they appear as if they were mountains in the sky.

Sometimes it is like a painting by our creator. Wisps and strokes of paint on nature’s canvas.

I can’t help finding wisps and strokes when painting horses, too.  Their manes and tails flap and flow with the horse’s movement.  Their coats gleam in the sun shine.

The horse’s beauty has been portrayed through the ages and continues to inspire us into the future.

Take the time to see the beauty around us in nature, and in the things we have in our lives.

Blessings,

LWG
