Spooks and Gifts

“Spooks and Gifts”

I volunteer at Horses Bring Hope therapeutic riding program.

Last night Horses Bring Hope hosted their “Spooktacular” fundrasing event in Quonset, RI.
It was a lot of fun.  Guests came in costume.  The food was great.  And we had a long table of items to raffle off to lucky winners.

I contributed some art work items toward this wonderful group’s raffle table.
With my love of horses, I naturally enjoy drawing them.
And where I volunteer at this horse program, that gives me ample models to draw.

Here is a portrait print I did of “Moony”.

Some happy lucky winners won these items.

Feels so good to be able to contribute to a great program that I feel passion about.

A Drawing to be part of HBH Raffle Basket

I will be creating a Raffle Basket of my equine art for Horses Bring Hope’s Spooktacular party in Sept.

I volunteer with this great therapeutic riding program, Horses Bring Hope. I get to witness the power of healing with horses.  I love it.

So I will be giving something special for their event.

I took a few pictures and did some sketches as I do when I in process to create a portrait.

Summer Time

Summer Time

Summer is a great time to be outdoors taking in the warm and beautiful weather.

I volunteer at a therapeutic riding program and one of the benefits is getting to ride.
The farm has trail paths that stretch far back on the property.
It’s great to go on the trails.
On a hot day it is really nice to walk down the path shaded by trees.

There are lots of woods and some fields.  It’s just beautiful.
Occassionaly one may spot wildlife.
On one trail ride I went on we saw two deer pass over the path.

The surrounding landscape and horses inspire my creativity.  That is why I indulge in being there when I can and taking it all in.

The Possibilities

“The Possibilities”

Saturday, June 6th my family and I watched on TV the last race of the Triple Crown Races at Belmont Park.
The favorite to win the race and win the three races of the Triple Crown Races was “American Pharaoh”.
There hadn’t been a Triple Crown Winner since 1978.
I was just a little kid then and didn’t know much about horses then. I didn’t see the races.

In 1973, Secretariat, would win the Triple Crown. Recently I saw the movie about Secretariat’s story. I loved it. I also watched a replay of the race that was recorded back then on Youtube.
I remember thinking how cool that must of been for those watching then.
And how I had learned about it when I got older.

Well, the events of our time have come. And I, my husband and two girls (13 and 11) got to witness seeing Live on TV a horse that would run all 3 races and Win.

I was poised as I watched the race. The girls watched interested.
As “American Pharaoh” headed down the last stretch of the race and pulled ahead and away from the pack of horses behind him, I couldn’t help but start screaming and cheering.
“OMG, we have a Triple Crown Winner. (over and over) I had never seen it Live on TV and was so thrilled. “It’s really happened.” I got to witness this along with many other people who watched the race. And I was among those people who were seeing it for the first time.
“Awesome. Just Amazing”.
It one of those feats that takes the right horse, the right rider, the right timing and such for it to happen.
For there are things that only transpire in certain circumstances. And this was one of them.

My youngest daughter was jumping up and down with excitement at seeing him win.
My oldest daughter typed out what was happening. lol
Our family got to share that moment together and witness something very special.

It’s times like that that I am very grateful.
Those special times where we have a moment to take in something very special.
Those times when we can see a moment that can inpsire us.
That can make us believe in something.
That can want us to turn the words “impossible” into “possible”.
To consider that maybe our doubts are the only thing that are holding us back.
And we should focus on what the Possibilties are.

Happy Spring

Happy Spring

Well almost.  The Spring Equinox is March 20.

The month of February blew in snow storm after snow storm.  Snow piled on top of snow.
The snow banks were very large after the snow plow went by and we shoveled what we could.
March roared in like a lion, with some snow to top it all off.

The other day was the first day in a long time that was warmish and the snow began to melt.
Slowly the snow is melting.
I’m just seeing the ground underneath today.
And I’m hoping to see some crocuses come up when the snow melts away enough.  The crocuses usually come up and through at the end of February.  But because of the large amount of snow, nothing has yet had a chance to be un-earthed.
Yet soon all will be un-earthed and ready to bloom.

All this unfolds before us.  The seasons change and we witness it.

It’s been as magnificent as ever.

I look forward to seeing the horses at the farm, where I volunteer, grazing on new grass in their paddocks.  And all of us enjoying the warmer weather.

Spring.  Glorious Spring.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday

February 7th was my birthday.

I’m sure I’m not the only one having a birthday this month.
In fact, I imagine that each day of the year there is someone having a birthday some where in the world.

How awesome is that.

We were born. We’re here.

We can celebrate Life.

With every breathe we live.
Though in the same token it is said that we are that much closer to our departing.

We can cherish the present moments now.

I once heard the poem, “Breathe in Peace, Breathe out Love” in a funeral sermon.

(main chorus phrase)

Breathe in Peace.
Breathe out Love.

Breathe in Peace.
Breathe out Love.

Take a quiet moment to join in this meditation.

Big breathe in.
“Breathe in Peace”.

Breath the breathe out.
“Breathe out Love.”

Thank you for being a part of my life and journey.

“Miss 545 and Foal”

Pastel Portrait

“Miss545 was a school horse I rode when I took riding lessons in the 1990’s. We had great fun.
She was also a broodmare that the farm owners bred to their stallion. She had 3 foals.
I got to see them.
Treasured memories.

Cherish the memories.
