Happy Birthday
“50”
Feb 7th is my birthday and it happens to be a milestone birthday , 50.
wow.
“…how did I get here.” (line from Talking Heads song)
I’ve had mixed thoughts about this approaching age.
Though I know it’s just a number, I can’t help the many thoughts that come through.
What stands out at this point in my life?
What’s been coming up is remembering to Surrender.
Surrender… to allow life to ebb and flow.
Don’t count on an intricate plan, for I have learned how that doesn’t pan out.
One of my favorite quotes is from “Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck.
“Best laid plans of Mice and Men often go awry”.
“Ah, yes”, I say to myself when I think about that quote. I have experienced that and have gained that wisdom, even though I may need an occassional reminder.
I can remember when I graduated college, back when, and how there was a stirring Big feeling of “Taking on the world”.
Hmmmm.
Well it didn’t pan out as I had expected and planned. No surprise there.
There were challenges that I faced off and met. Yet there were also some wonderful and amazing things that happened to me that I couldn’t have even imagined.
Rather rich and fulfilling.
Things to learn. And things to embrace with wonder.
To allow.
My experiences has been that as much as I use my head to figure things out, and even use my heart in conjunction, I will at times go with my gut feeling on things.
Maybe it’s because I’m an artist.
My sensitivity, awareness and observing levels are pretty acute.
That gut feeling has felt like an inner compass to me and has faired me well, I must say.
That gut feeling has proven to be right so many times… spot on in fact.
With all that said, I must then continue my my journey with all I have to guide me.

Soldier Portraits
Darla Dixon organized a group of artists who will create no-charge compassionate portraits for the families who have lost a loved one in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom. We are looking for artists to join our efforts, and also for non-artists who will help spread the word about this free service and token of our gratitude to families who have sacrificed so much.”
