Something Old, Something New

“Something Old, Something New”

Over the years I’ve worked I can say I’ve seen some changes in work.

It’s interesting to look at my girls and think what a different world they’re growing up in than I.
They’re growing up with computers, iphones and andriods.

Back when I was young, when we were watching TV we had to get up and  walk across to the TV to turn the nob to change the channel.
Now one can stay and relax on the couch while pointing and clicking a remote to what channel we want to watch.

My summer internship job during the years I was in college was in the MA state Commercial Vehicle Division Department.  My first year there  I was a File clerk. The office was lined with file cabinets full of paper files.  The second summer was the year that the department was switching from paper files to data files on the computer.  That summer they would show me how to enter data into the computer.  My job changed from File clerk to a Data entry position.

One of the skills I have as an artist is being able to create things with my hands.
I have painted in oils and acrylics.  I have drawn in Pen and Ink.  I at times have worked with clay, wood and wire in sculpture at times.
I have also used a computer to create art, too.

I would at some point in my life be in a position at a job where I did ornamental hand embroidery and hand sewing.  I worked for a company that made and sold the Masonic items to Masonic organizations, like the Shriners.
There were somethings that couldn’t be done my a machine, so they were done by hand.  That was my job: to do the hand work.

Here is a sample of Embroidery on a Masonic apron that I did.

That job would come to a close when the company closed in 2001.

In our present time now computers are a main essential tool.   Many artist have taken up creating art work using the computer.  It’s changed up.

Pen and Ink

We have quite a variety of tools to pick from in our age.  It can seem mind boggling.

Yet we should remember we are creators at the core, no matter what medium we choose.

Soldier Portraits
Darla Dixon organized a group of artists who will create no-charge compassionate portraits for the families who have lost a loved one in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom. We are looking for artists to join our efforts, and also for non-artists who will help spread the word about this free service and token of our gratitude to families who have sacrificed so much.”
