\u201cJump into some Fun\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you recall in \u201cMary Poppins\u201d how they \u201cjumped into\u201d a painting? <\/span><\/p>\n

I remember being enchanted by such an idea, though it was a movie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet the idea of a painting that takes us somewhere is somewhat real. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When we look at a painting we can take in what we see. <\/span>We can get some feelings about an image that a painting portrays. We might in our mind even go there.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Of course as a horse lover, my favorite painting they \u201cjumped into\u201d was when they rode carousel horses off the carousel for a ride that would take them across the countryside and into a horse race. <\/span>Mary would receive the gifts of the Horse race winner: roses and trophy. <\/span>What a wonderful journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Our lives are a journey to take in too.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The first Saturday in May is the running of the Kentucky Derby, \u201cRun for the Roses\u201d. <\/span> <\/span>For a number of years I\u2019ve watched it on TV. <\/span>There have been some years I\u2019ve picked a horse to win. <\/span>I watched intently as they ran around the track and headed around the last turn for the home stretch, There were a couple of times when the horse I picked was then running in first place \u201ddown the stretch\u201d. <\/span>I found myself cheering and my heart pounding with excitement. <\/span>Wow, what a trip. <\/span>And it was good to feel like \u201ca winner\u201d. <\/span>How that must have felt to the jockey. <\/span>Wow!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Though I\u2019m not a jockey, or working with horses on a daily basis, I\u2019ve felt honored when I\u2019ve had the opportunity to ride them. <\/span> <\/span>I have had rides when I\u2019ve felt the rocking of the horse under me and the wind in my face. <\/span> <\/span>I\u2019ve ridden in shows and felt great about a ride and received ribbons. <\/span> <\/span>I can close my eyes and remember those times. <\/span>I can recreate in my mind that moment.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Over time I\u2019ve create drawings and paintings sharing my moments with the horses I\u2019ve worked with or horses I\u2019ve seen perform with other riders.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve enjoyed recreating those moments on paper and sharing them.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Canada Geese Family<\/a>“<\/span><\/p>\n

“Canada Geese Family<\/a>” is a pen and ink drawing of a family of Canada Geese.\u00a0 My parents live near a reservior.\u00a0 I’d see the Canada geese often at the reservior.\u00a0 One day I had my camera with me and a family of geese came out of the water with their goslings and settled on the shore.\u00a0 Their fuzzy goslings were very cute.\u00a0 I got a picture of them.\u00a0 I then did a pen and ink drawing of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span> Darla Dixon organized a group of artists who will create no-charge compassionate portraits for the families who have lost a loved one in Operation Iraqi Freedom\/Operation Enduring Freedom. We are looking for artists to join our efforts, and also for non-artists who will help spread the word about this free service and token of our gratitude to families who have sacrificed so much.” <\/span><\/p>\n
