{"id":493,"date":"2011-02-16T16:04:05","date_gmt":"2011-02-16T16:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lisasart.com\/blog\/?p=493"},"modified":"2011-02-16T16:20:09","modified_gmt":"2011-02-16T16:20:09","slug":"touching-lives-with-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lisasart.com\/blog\/touching-lives-with-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Touching lives with Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201c<strong>Touching lives with Art<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Art can touch lives and enrich our lives in so many ways.\u00a0<br \/>\nOn my creative journey I&#8217;ve witness it.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBack in the 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade, I used to do some drawing during free time if I had finished my work.\u00a0 At one point the teacher noticed my drawings and thought they were very nice.\u00a0 The kids in the class also noticed.\u00a0 I was drawing funny creatures then.\u00a0 My classmates liked the idea and started doing their own drawings.\u00a0 They would ask me for advice about drawing and I would help them.\u00a0 The whole class got into it. I was a very shy child and yet with art I was able to open up and share with others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I have a cousin who is physically and mentally challenged. I met her when her and her family came to visit. I wanted to play with her. When I showed her my toys she would just withdraw and have a blank look on her face.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t sure what to do. One morning I saw her in the corner of the kitchen scribbling on a pad of paper.\u00a0 I sat down beside her.\u00a0 She stopped for a moment.\u00a0 I picked up the pen.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t look at me.\u00a0 \u00a0I decided to try something. I drew a smiley face on the pad of paper.\u00a0 She suddenly looked up at me with the brightest sparkling smile. I handed the pen back to her and said, \u201cYou try\u201d.\u00a0 She got a little frustrated, so I showed her how and help her draw one by herself.\u00a0 It was the first of many visits spent drawing together.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0recently met up with a classmate from years ago.\u00a0 It was good to connect with her from so long ago.\u00a0 She asked me if I remembered showing her how to make a Mickey Mouse face.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t recall that specific moment for time had passed.\u00a0 Yet she never forgot.\u00a0 She can\u2019t really draw but can make a Mickey Mouse face. She even showed her children how to make a Mickey Mouse face.\u00a0<br \/>\nI wouldn\u2019t of thought of that making a difference yet it did.<\/p>\n<p>Both our girls enjoy drawing and painting too.\u00a0<br \/>\nI encourage creativity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Art has been a part of my life from the first time I picked up a pencil.\u00a0 It\u2019s also shown me over and over that it\u2019s a key to connecting with others too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What talents we have are to be used in our lives.\u00a0 It connects us together.\u00a0<br \/>\nIt\u2019s part of the colorful fabric of life.
