We are members of the local Roger Williams Zoo <\/span>and take some time to visit the zoo when we can. <\/span>They have a wonderful assortment of animals to see. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our daughter Emily\u2019s favorite animal is the elephants, because their name begins with \u201cE\u201d. <\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When we first got to the elephants they were outside and sort of far away in a fenced in area. <\/span>The zoo is going through some reconstruction. <\/span>They\u2019re expanding the elephant and giraffe (who live next door) exhibit spaces. <\/span>They\u2019ll have a lot more room to roam and a bigger pond to enjoy. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The zoo has an indoor pavilion. <\/span>Inside we saw the giraffes, which I\u2019ve gotten to like. <\/span>The giraffes had a couple of babies this year, which we got to see on our last visit. <\/span>The baby giraffes have since moved to a zoo in <\/span>Chicago<\/span>. <\/span>The adult giraffes enjoyed the cooler space in the pavilion. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the elephants area I couldn\u2019t help notice one of the walls. <\/span>It has paint strokes on it. <\/span>Apparently they give the elephants some painting time. <\/span>One way they keep them active. <\/span>One sign described each elephant\u2019s individual paint strokes. <\/span>Imagine, <\/span>they each painted (if you care to call it painting) in their own way. <\/span>I thought that was neat. <\/span>
\nIt reminded me of a site I saw in a message where an elephant learned to paint. <\/span>Apparently it gives the elephants something interesting to do besides the usual routine. <\/span> <\/span>Interesting for sure.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Later on during our visit to the zoo , we stopped by the pavilion again. <\/span>The elephants were in having \u201clunch\u201d. <\/span>The girls loved them. <\/span>One can\u2019t help but marvel at their size. <\/span>They\u2019re the biggest land animal living on our planet. <\/span>
\nTheir trunk is amazing too. <\/span>They can not only breath through it, but can spray water <\/span>into their mouth <\/span>or on themselves . <\/span>They can use their trunk to lift heavy logs or branches. <\/span>The end of the trunk has a finger like muscle. <\/span>It can delicately pick up a piece of hay or grass. <\/span>Just incredible really. <\/span>Nature holds many wonders and the elephant is sure one of them. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I naturally got some pictures to add to my collection of photos. <\/span>I\u2019ll have to take some time to create some of my own art images of them from the photos. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
