Carving a pumpkin for Halloween was a family tradition in our house.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mom would pick up a large pumpkin at a local farm. <\/span>At home we\u2019d gather around to help clean the pumpkin out and carve a face. <\/span>Mom would cut a clean circle around the top. <\/span>Then we\u2019d take a large spoon and gradually spoon out the stringy insides and seeds. <\/span>Once it was clean, the face would be carved. <\/span>The last part was placing a flashlight inside to make the face glow. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that we have children of our own, we are carrying on the tradition and fun.<\/span><\/p>\n

We go to a local farm and let the girls pick out a pumpkin for themselves. <\/span>One night before Halloween we gather around to clean the pumpkins out and I carve a face into each. <\/span>Last year our oldest daughter wanted a smiling jack-o-lantern while her younger sister wanted a scary face jack-o-lantern. <\/span>We placed a battery light inside each. <\/span>It was so fun to turn out the lights and see our Jack-O-lanterns glowing. <\/span><\/p>\n

Holidays are a great time to do family crafts and have a lot of fun.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Sleeping Fox<\/a> “<\/span><\/p>\n

“Sleeping Fox ” is a pastel painting of a fox at the Blue Hills Trailside Museum, Milton. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Blue Hills is a beautiful nature reserve just south of <\/span>Boston<\/span>. There are many trails to explore as well as The Trailside museum where one can get an up close look of animals in the Northeast region, and learn about them. One day I did some sketching of some of the animals there. <\/span><\/p>\n

At the Arts in the Park in <\/span>Randolph<\/span>, I decided to do a demonstration with my fox sketch, and made this pastel painting. <\/span><\/p>\n
