Star Light, Star Bright

“Star light, Star bright”

Have you ever taken the time to look at the night sky?
It’s really amazing.
Last Thursday night was a clear winter night and a bright Venus could be viewed. My husband noted it outside. We went outside and could see it from the front of our house in the western sky. It was so beautiful and bright.
We explained to the girls though it looks like a bright star it’s a planet out in space, many thousands of miles away. It amazing to think about it.

Beyond where we stand, there is an endless space.

Looking just south I noticed the constellation “Orion”. It’s one of the easier set of stars to find (I’ve found anyway). The three stars in a row, “orion’s belt”. Then the outer stars form head, arms, legs and sword of the hunter. Here’s more information :Orion constellation

My thoughts traveled to that space, so far, wide and endless. Makes you think that our own thoughts don’t need to be limited. Thoughts about the wonder of what is and what could be.
Our lives are as we create them and What is here is to be experience. There’s so much to take in and create.
An open mind is never poor.

Feature Art/product

Winter’s Eve
“Winter’s Eve” is a scratch board.
Scratch board is a board/piece of paper with a layer of clay (usually white). A layer of ink is applied on top of clay either by artist or manufactorer. (I’ve been buying board already inked). The tools used with scratch board are an exacto knife or other sharp ended tool. The name ‘scratch board” comes from using a knife or sharp tool to “scratch out” image. As a line is made with a knife the underlying clay (white) is exposed.
The image is made in a “reverse” way, in that, instead of creating an image with black pen(or another medium) on white paper, the image is scratched out to white on a black surface.
I’ll be creating more scratch board images as I work toward my exhibit with BankRI in 2010. I’m very excited about this exhibit.
I’ll be posting occassionaly works in progress images at my blog.
This image is available as a card, a sendoutcards cover image and a print.
