Happy New Year

“A new Year”

As a new year begins,  I look forward to events on the horizon and things to do.

One event is my exhibit with BankRI galleries.

My exhibit with BankRI galleries opens in February.

I’ve been creating work and getting ready for this exhibit. This month I’ll be framing the work to be ready to hang. It’s exciting to be feeling the time for the exhibit getting closer.  It’s wonderful to feel this coming to fruition. I look forward to the opening.  I can’t help thinking how fitting it is that it’s opening in the same month as my birthday.  A wonderful gift to share.

It will be at the Pitman branch for the month of February.  Then in March it will be moved to One Turks head in downtown Providence.  On the third Thurs., Mar 18 there will be a reception as a part of Providence Gallery Night.  See info in Art News.

Another year filled with opportunities and gifts.

Who knows what else is ahead.

Step forward into this year.

Pioneer

“word: pioneer” is an illustration I did for a weekly event at IllustrationFriday.com.

I felt this was a fitting image to start the new year off.

pioneer:

1. One who ventures into unknown or unclaimed territory to settle.

2. One who opens up new areas of thought, research, or development: a pioneer in aviation.

3. A soldier who performs construction and demolition work in the field to facilitate troop movements.

4. Ecology An animal or plant species that establishes itself in a previously barren environment.

adj.

1. Of, relating to, or characteristic of early settlers: the pioneer spirit.

2. Leading the way; trailblazing: a pioneer treatment for cancer.

A new year is a chance to venture ahead on our journey in life.   A new way to step ahead and be present.

I think of the pioneers who settled the west, as well as, the pioneers that explored the deep seas and places on this earth.  I also think of  the Wright Brothers who were pioneers in flight technology.  And the pioneers of space exploration.

I remember in 1968 (I was 3 yrs.old…ok, I’m dating myself ) my mom woke us all up to watch the space shuttle take off for the first moon landing. Though I was very young, I remember it rather clear.  Watching the space shuttle lift off and up into space was an incredible moment.  It was a moment in history.  Amazing.

I give ‘Thanks’ to explorers and pioneers of the past and present.  We live in an amazing world.

Cheers to what’s ahead.
