“The only Constant is change”
We’re in 2019. Last June I moved into a full time job working as a Direct Support Professional. I work for an art and music based day program with disabled adults. I’m in the School services department. I’m enjoying the work. I have 2 regular participants twice a week. There’s a bit of collaboration and open talking, which feels rich.
This was a change from working a part time job at an elementary school. I felt the change was in an upward direction.
I’ve also been teaching my 16 yr. old to drive now. Though sometimes a little hair raising at times, there’s also been progress.
Looking back at last year, there were a few transitions and changes. One was leaving the part time school job. Then taking on this full time job.
Another was my Mom passing away.
A 3rd was noting that I didn’t have the amount of time to volunteer as much with horses. In adjusting, I noticed I felt a loss, even where I had some gain in some areas of my life. I needed to fill that void. So I have decided to take on a past dream of writing and illustrating a book. A big project. I don’t know where the road will twist and turn. Yet I know if I don’t go, I’ll regret not putting in the effort. So I take a step forward. OK, a little hint. It has a horse in it, of course. The little girl who loved to draw and loved horses hasn’t lost her dreams.

I don’t intend to walk this road alone.

Soldier Portraits:
