“Run one’s Own Race ”

“Let him run his own race” was a line in the movie “Secretariat”.

In the movie, Penny Chenery is faced with not only her ill father but his horse farm too, which she takes on to run.  In one scene, she presents Red/Secretariat to her father.  He looks and touches the horse, then says these words to her.  And so she follows through despite the advice from her brother and husband.  She runs-goes to make the dream a reality: Secretariat -a Triple Crown winner.

I love this movie for the inspirational points throughout.  And this line stood out for me.
“run one’s own race”.

In the horse racing news today, the team behind the thoroughbred horse “I’ll Have Another” is looking for the same dream too.  They have the same vision their working toward.

It’s interesting to consider the stories behind the dreams that become reality.

Though we can’t know ahead of time what will transpire,  we can “run our own race”.  We can follow a dream to reality.  We can work our way through to make our lives what we want.

It takes talent, skill, connections, etc… to fulfill a path.  Yet it’s do-able, if we “run our race”.

Yes, there is only one winner in any horse race.

Yet as far as our lives, we can be our own best winner.  We can “give it a go”.

I’m running my own race as an artist and Illustrator.
I’ll be showing up at ICON7- illustration conference as an exhibitor.  This is my first time at an illustration conference.  I’ll be showing up as artist/owner of Lisa’s Art & Horses, which offers a variety of gift items of animals and nature.
“Who I’ll meet and what will be” is to be seen.  The important thing is Showing up-and running my race to see how it goes.

Best of Luck to “I’ll Have Another” this weekend.

Soldier Portraits
Darla Dixon organized a group of artists who will create no-charge compassionate portraits for the families who have lost a loved one in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom. We are looking for artists to join our efforts, and also for non-artists who will help spread the word about this free service and token of our gratitude to families who have sacrificed so much.”

    Well, no Triple Crown winner.
“I’ll Have Another” developed tendonitis in his front leg. He’ll be a stud now.

Glad to see the owners thinking of the horse first.
