“Shaping our World”
We watched the movie “1776” this year.
“1776” :
The film version of the Broadway musical comedy of the same name.
In the days leading up to July 4, 1776, Continental Congressmen John Adams and Benjamin Franklin coerce Thomas Jefferson into writing the Declaration of Independence as a delaying tactic as they try to persuade the American colonies to support a resolution on independence. As George Washington sends depressing messages describing one military disaster after another, the businessmen, landowners and slave holders in Congress all stand in the way of the Declaration, and a single “nay” vote will forever end the question of independence. Large portions of spoken and sung dialog are taken directly from the letters and memoirs of the actual participants. Written by Dave Heston <heston@iName.com>
I found it fascinating that despite knowing the outcome of our nation being born, that as I watched the movie I still felt some suspense.
The facts were that they didn’t all see eye to eye on issues. That there were loud discussions. There were those that were undecided. They spend days deliberating. Messages from G. Washington informed them what was going on out in the military fields. They were amidst a revolution.
Yet we became a nation. There was enough people that believed. That tipped the fates in our direction, I suppose.
There still are debates about this or that cause or situation. And there are always people ready to stand for what they believe.
In doing so we are shaping our world. Hopefully toward a better “tomorrow”.
I think we have made bounds in some ways.
Yet life and situations are continuous. It involves our participation.
The future is ahead of us. Who knows how we can shape it.

Soldier Portraits
Darla Dixon organized a group of artists who will create no-charge compassionate portraits for the families who have lost a loved one in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom. We are looking for artists to join our efforts, and also for non-artists who will help spread the word about this free service and token of our gratitude to families who have sacrificed so much.”
